From a shortlist of 12, Goring was announced as the winner of Oxfordshire Village of the Year live on BBC Local Radio on 10th July. Villages were judged in four categories, with Goring winning the £500 Sustainability prize and another £500 for overall winner. Judges were impressed with activities around thermal imaging of homes, providing allotments, eliminating plastic bags, car sharing and the hydro-electric power scheme. The hydro-power scheme is about to enter a new and exciting phase with the completion of the feasibility studies.
